Dear Friends,
How fast it seems like time has flown since I was first elected on November 4, 2008 to complete the term of former Commissioner Denise Bode which expired at the end of 2010; took office on January 13, 2009 and am now running for re-election for a full six-year term on the Commission! It hardly seems as if the time has gone so quickly.
The filing period for statewide candidates running for office on the 2010 ballot starts Monday, June 7 and goes through Wednesday, June 9. I will be filing for re-election on Monday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the State Capitol. I am grateful that part of my family, my Mom and my nephew, Lee, will be there with me on Monday. For those of you available, I would be honored and thrilled to have you there with us when I file for re-election at the Capitol on Monday.
As I reflect back over the past 1 year, 4 months and 23 days (who's counting, right!), among the many challenges of the budget, furloughs and varying issues facing the Commission, I am most grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Commissioner and to have the opportunity to make a difference for our State. I think about some of the overwhelming odds that were overcome to hold this position today - money, incumbency, money and yet, more money - seemed to be against my campaign from the start. It still amazes me that we were outspent more than 2:1, had the two largest newspapers against me, many prominent and wealthy supporting the appointed incumbent, a most negative campaign against me and still, here I am today, serving as your Commissioner. Sometimes things work out in ways that we can never fully comprehend. I never stopped believing that I was the right person with the right qualifications at the right time for this job and with your help, it all came true. Surely, I know that without the help of so many of you, I would not be a Corporation Commissioner today.
More challenging times await the Commission, our State and our Nation, especially on the energy front. It is more important than ever to have the most qualified, educated and experienced Oklahomans looking out for Oklahomans across the State. I look forward to helping meet the upcoming challenges and giving my very best - as I have told many of you - bringing my A-game every day to do the best I can to serve Oklahomans everyday, everywhere. Balanced, focused, experienced and independent leadership seem more important than ever to tackle the tough issues that lie ahead.
I hope you might take the time to check out my most recent podcasts at http://www.danamurphy.com/dana-speaks-murphymedia-58.html where you can hear what is on my mind and what issues are at the forefront of those the Commission is dealing with.
Again, thanks so much to all of you for your incredible financial support and personal support in my re-election efforts. I have raised over $312,000 now in my bid for re-election and I continue to work hard to raise money and travel across the state meeting Oklahomans everywhere.
I look forward to this weekend to traveling to Western Hills Lodge near Wagoner, Oklahoma for the Oklahoma Press Association's Annual Convention to talk about my term in office and my bid for re-election.
I continue to be amazed at the generosity and support I receive as I travel around the state and I am still working hard to raise money and campaign again to be hired by you to do this job. I worked very hard and so did many of you to help me become your Corporation Commissioner and I plan to exert as much or more effort to stay on the job and doing my best for Oklahoma! If you want to contribute, you can still do so by printing a contributor slip directly from my website and mailing it with your donation or you can make a donation directly on-line at: http://www.danamurphy.com/donate-supportdana-42.html
Again, I appreciate all you have done to help me become your Corporation Commissioner and for your ongoing efforts to help me stay on the job as your Commissioner. I promise to continue to give my very best and do all I can to help our State and our Nation prosper and move towards true energy independence.
God Bless,
Your Commissioner, Dana |
