The Corporation Commission regulates:
1. Transportation
by overseeing the operation of intrastate transportation, including motor
carrier transport (trucking), railroad crossings, and pipeline safety.
2. Oil & Gas
drilling, production and environmental protection;
3. Petroleum Storage Tanks by
enforcing federal and state regulations for motor fuel quality and
containment (among other things, they make sure gasoline pumps measure
correctly);
4. Public
Utilities by setting and/or adjusting rates and services for electricity,
water, telephone, natural gas, and cotton gin utilities;
The OCC regulates approximately 700 public utilities; 5,700
for hire and private motor carriers; 3,000 oil and gas operators; and 24
railroad companies.
The OCC oversees more than 40,000 miles of pipelines; 9,000
underground storage tanks; 125,000 active oil and gas wells and 4,100 railroad
crossings.
And just in case you were wondering, no, the OCC does not
regulate cable television, cell phones, the internet, the price of a gallon of
gasoline, or the wellhead price of natural gas.
The main office of the OCC is in Oklahoma
City with a satellite office in
Tulsa . The State is divided
up into 4 different District Field Oil and Gas offices covering different areas
of the State.
District I - Bristow Office ( Northeastern
Oklahoma )
District II - Kingfisher Office ( Northwestern
Oklahoma )
District III - Duncan Office ( Southwestern
Oklahoma )
District IV - Ada Office (
Southeastern Oklahoma )
